Board consultancy
Our systems-psychodynamic approach is designed to help boards engage with both the visible and hidden dynamics shaping their effectiveness. We work with what is formally discussed and ‘on the table’ while also surfacing the implicit assumptions, dynamics that may be blocking progress. By examining what is happening beneath the surface, we help boards navigate complexity, improve decision-making, and address the often-overlooked factors that influence governance and strategic leadership.
Our approach
The sessions will explore what it means to lead as a board member, working across internal and organisational boundaries in service of the organisation’s primary task, particularly where tensions and competing demands arise. Using a systems psychodynamics lens, we will examine the hidden dynamics, power structures, and decision-making processes that shape board effectiveness.
We will be curious about:
- What wider influences or pressures are coming across your organisation’s boundaries, and how has the board responded?
- How are roles understood, and how is authority delegated and taken up in this system?
- What is the impact of wider systemic factors—multiple stakeholders, shifting expectations, and regulatory change?
- How can you, as a board, work together differently to effectively address these challenges?
By engaging with these questions, board members will gain deeper insight into their roles, group dynamics, and the unconscious factors shaping boardroom effectiveness, ultimately leading to stronger governance, strategic alignment, and sustainable impact.
Impact
The value in how we work is in the impact our approach helps boards move beyond technical governance to a deeper, more reflective approach to leadership, ensuring they are better equipped to navigate complexity and drive sustainable success. When collaborating with us, boards report:
