Reflective practice
Services and organisations are working with high levels of demand, significant pressures on time and resources and unprecedented levels of change and uncertainty. All this impacts on staff and team wellbeing which can affect workplace satisfaction, team effectiveness, performance, alongside productivity and retention.
Our approach
Reflective practice provides the time and space for thinking and for connecting as a team outside of the everyday business of the work.
Our consultant facilitators are skilled in creating the psychological safety that enable a group to share the experiences that have impacted them at work. Through attending to the boundaries of the session: timing, confidentiality and establishing an atmosphere of openness, pre-conceived assumptions and differences within the group are enabled to emerge. The consultant facilitators guide the group when business, conflicts or strong feelings come in, to enable the issues to be thought about. These meaningful discussions, staff leave feeling understood and no longer alone with difficulties. This allows the Reflective Practice space to become a place where participants can trust that their experiences, and that of others, will be listened to and recognised.
The groups also enable staff to connect with shared accomplishments, as well as challenges, and to notice how their work, and some of the issues, are part of wider dynamics or contextual realities. We work with both frontline staff, management and senior groups in health, charity and commercial sectors helping them to develop their working relationships, thereby building team effectiveness and productivity.
Impact
As a result of our reflective practice teams often report the following impact:
- Gaining insights into the hidden dynamics of work, broadening perspectives
- Altering perceptions, leading to changes in practice
- Enhanced team dynamics and collaboration through connecting with colleagues
- Fostering organisational learning
